SOME ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT WIRELESS INTERNET

ICON has been offering wireless Internet Access to Northeast PA for several years. Unfortunately, the term wireless seems to be turning into one of those overused, over-hyped computer terms. As a result, customers are sometimes confused when we talk about wireless. Here are the answers to the most common questions regarding wireless internet:

1) Q: Is this satellite?
A:
No. Satellite dishes communicate with satellites orbiting the earth. Our wireless system uses tower sites throughout Northeast PA. The next time you're driving somewhere, take notice of the radio, television and cell phone towers that dot our landscape. Our wireless equipment is on some of those towers.

2) Q: How far does your signal reach?
A:
Typically, we can serve customers within a 10 to 15 mile radius of our tower. We have several tower sites, including Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Pittston, Carbondale, Jessup and Mayfield. This means we can cover most of our customers right now. We will also be adding more tower sites this spring.

3) Q: Can anyone with that 10 to 15 mile range get service.
A:
Unlike television or radio, our signal requires a clear line of sight between your location and our tower. Because of the terrain in Northeast PA, this can be a challenge. However, by having multiple towers we can get the signal to most locations.

4) Q: How do I know if I can get wireless?
A:
Call us at 888-480-9910 or email staff@icontech.com. We can check your location using our mapping software and let you know if you can get service.

5) Q: What kind of speeds can I get?
A:
Wireless is available in speeds from 128K to 1544K (T-1). We have a variety of packages to fit business and residential needs. It's broadband without the hassle of the phone or cable company.
